The Zetechtics Jupiter Petrobras-Compliant Tooling Spread is a fully integrated subsea intervention solution developed for Petrobras-operated assets in Brazil. Designed to support ultra-deepwater operations, the system is qualified for deployment in water depths of up to 3,000 m in accordance with Petrobras requirements.
By combining control systems, torque tools, adaptive interface technology, hydraulic flying lead (HFL) handling, and torque verification into a single subsea platform, Jupiter enables flexible intervention across both API17D and Petrobras interfaces, including degraded and corroded valve profiles. By reducing tooling changes and subsea recovery operations, the system improves efficiency, flexibility, and cost performance during complex intervention campaigns.
Challenge
As Brazil’s offshore fields matured, intervention operations became increasingly complex. Operators needed to work across mixed interface standards while managing ageing infrastructure, cost, vessel time, and controlling operational risk.
Key challenges included:
- Mixed API and Petrobras interface standards across assets
- Corroded, worn, or degraded valve profiles
- Frequent tooling changes during campaigns
- Dependence on ROV recovery for reconfiguration
- Rising vessel utilisation and offshore operating costs
- Increased operational risk in deepwater environments
- Limited subsea access windows
Conventional API-focused tooling systems lacked the flexibility required to support these evolving field conditions efficiently.
Solution
Built on existing torque tool architecture, Zetechtics developed the Jupiter Petrobras-Compliant Tooling Spread, combining torque intervention, adaptive interface technology, HFL handling, and torque verification into a single subsea platform.
A key capability of the system is its ability to switch between API and Petrobras interfaces subsea without recovering tooling to surface. This significantly reduces operational downtime and increases intervention flexibility.
This integrated approach allows operators to complete multiple intervention tasks within a single deployment.

Engineering & Qualification
All Jupiter control systems are qualified for 4000m operation. The complete Jupiter tooling package is qualified for deepwater and ultra deepwater operation up to 3000m, with compliance to Petrobras intervention requirements and alignment with ISO 13628-8 standards. Systems can be supplied for up to 6000m operation on request.
The system has undergone ROV integration and validation testing, structural and load verification, and incorporates corrosion-resistant material selection to ensure reliability in harsh offshore environments. Full manufacturing traceability and quality assurance processes are maintained throughout production, supported by Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), System Integration Testing (SIT), and project-specific validation testing. In addition, the system is supported by lifecycle calibration and maintenance programs to ensure long-term operational performance.
Result
Jupiter has become an enabling technology for Petrobras-operated intervention campaigns, particularly in mature offshore fields where operational flexibility is critical.
Key operational benefits include:
- Fewer ROV recovery cycles
- Reduced vessel time and offshore standby costs
- Faster intervention execution
- Reduced operational risk in deepwater environments
- Improved reliability on ageing and degraded infrastructure
- Standardisation across multiple asset types
- Unified software across tooling operations
- Seamless integration with existing subsea systems
Its ability to perform multiple tasks in a single deployment has been particularly valuable in complex, multi-stage campaigns.
“The subsea interface-switching capability and integrated gear-change functionality removed multiple recovery operations from the campaign plan, enabling seamless transitions between tooling configurations and materially reduced vessel time.”
